Moorefield Station Elementary PTO Statement in Response to Financial Crimes Arrest (08 August 2024)

As a community, we publicly received some challenging news today regarding the financial crimes against our volunteer-based organization. Over the last several months, the current volunteer PTO Executive Committee communicated to our membership the financial inconsistencies that were discovered in December of 2023. While we have diligently tried to keep our families up to date with information about this investigation, we acknowledge that this may be new information for many in our community.

Upon discovery of the financial inconsistencies in December 2023, we immediately reported the case to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), and the previous President was removed from office. The Executive Committee complied with all requests from LCSO to-date and will continue to do so. We would like to thank the LCSO for their thorough investigation, which concluded with a resolution that one individual was found to be responsible and charges ultimately filed.

Since December 2023, the current PTO Executive Committee, its members, and its volunteers–including Moorefield’s Administration, staff, and teachers– have worked tirelessly to recover from these unfortunate circumstances in order to continue to provide for our school, students, teachers and the administration. We’ve hosted numerous fundraisers, worked with our debtors, and taken corrective measures to ensure this organization operates in a secure and financially sound manner. For your reference, a copy of our updated bylaws can be found on our website (www.msespto.org).

It is important to clarify that while the PTO operates solely to support our school, we are not a part of the Loudoun County Public School system. Neither Moorefield Station Elementary nor Loudoun County Public Schools are involved in any financial oversight of the PTO.

The new PTO Executive Committee began their term starting July 1st, 2024, and they are committed to upholding the bylaws we instituted this past school year. The Moorefield Station PTO will continue to hold fundraisers to provide support to our teachers and special programs, such as after school enrichment programs (ASEP), 5th grade graduation events, picnics, and seasonal celebrations. We want to continue to thank the entire community for supporting us through this challenging time and we know the Moorefield Station community is strong and we will continue to thrive, together.
